Other business credit card welcome offers

The business card registration bonuses listed below may be of less value or more difficult to obtain than the bonuses listed above. However, they may make sense for you based on your spending habits and personal preferences. There are several options to consider.

Travel business credit card with welcome benefits

What is a business credit card sign-up bonus?

A business credit card sign-up bonus is a benefit offered by the issuer to new cardholders. Typically, you can receive this bonus in either cashback or points when you spend more than a certain amount within a certain period of time (usually 90 days) after opening the card. Sign-up bonuses may change frequently.

A sign-up bonus doesn't just come from signing up for a business credit card. To earn rewards, you must meet certain qualifications. Therefore, this benefit is also known as a welcome offer. The best offer is the one you're sure you'll get.

Please read the offer details carefully to understand the possibilities. For example, only certain purchases may count toward your spending requirements. Additionally, you may not qualify depending on your history with the issuer (whether you previously had a version of that business card, how many cards you have with the provider, etc.). If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact your issuer to confirm before applying.

How do business credit card welcome offers compare to personal cards?

Here are some current examples of business credit card sign-up bonuses compared to comparable consumer-level cards.

Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. Redeem through Chase Travel℠ for $750.

Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business

versus

Capital One Quiksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card

It's important to note that you don't need a business to get a business credit card. A side hustle or occasional freelance work is enough to get a business card and qualify for these larger sign-up bonuses. Note that business cards may have less protection for cardholders than personal cards. You will also need to agree to a personal guarantee stating that you will be personally liable for the debt even if the business fails.

The good news is that if you use the card for business, the fees and interest will count as a business expense. This means you can deduct these card costs on your taxes.

Why are business card bonuses generally higher?

Small business owners generally tend to spend more money than consumers, so business credit cards offer bigger bonuses. This means that issuers can afford to offer sign-up bonuses more generously and attractively to attract customers.

Of course, this doesn't come from their good intentions. The more you spend on your business credit card, the more money your card issuer makes.

If a company has a balance, the issuer can earn more in interest. And even if the cardholder pays in full each month and never accrues interest, the issuer still earns a percentage of each transaction through swipe fees.

How to compare corporate credit card bonuses

It can be difficult to evaluate business credit card bonuses by juxtaposing various criteria. A simple formula to compare them is:

The lower the result, the higher the potential value of the offer.

For example, card “A” gives you a $350 cash bonus after you spend $4,000 in 90 days, and card “B” gives you a $250 cash bonus after you spend $3,000 in that period. Suppose that Here's a breakdown of these offers:

  • Card A: 4,000 / 350 = 11.4

  • Card B: 3,000 / 250 = 12

In this case, the additional $100 on Card A is seemingly a better deal. Of course, if you know your business won't spend his $4,000, the calculation should change. The same goes if the card's other features (perhaps an annual fee or perks cap) affect your staying power. Still, this is one way to factor bonuses into broader decisions.

Travel, hotel, and airline business credit cards typically offer points instead of cash in their welcome offers. We recommend converting these points to dollars because the value of these points depends on many factors, including where and how you plan to redeem them. To help you evaluate offers, here's how NerdWallet evaluates different publisher points.
