Blacksburg's Ridiculous Chicken and Centro Taco Bar each recently paid $1,000 fines for overcrowding in September.
According to Virginia Department of Liquor Control records, the town's fire marshal found the establishments “full” of people on the night of Sept. 30 and ordered everyone out for the evening. At Ridiculous Chicken, officials counted 150 people at the time of departure, far exceeding its capacity of 79 people. Centro, located on the upper floor of the same address, had a capacity of 200 people, but fire officials recorded more than 400 patrons. Said.

Authorities accused the companies of failing to comply with applicable laws regarding hygiene, health, construction, and equipment at their sites.
Records show that Ridiculous Chicken's license holder, Wangian Wei, admitted to the violation and resolved the matter by paying a fine on April 8. A Centro representative, whose name is illegible in the records, did the same in March. The two companies have also agreed that if they violate fire regulations in the future, both stores will have their alcohol sales licenses revoked for three days.

Downtown Roanoke restaurant closes
Miguel Liendo said he closed his Leonore restaurant on Campbell Avenue in downtown Roanoke after 12 years and laid off 15 employees, but he will continue to do pickup and delivery work at a Salem strip mall.
Riendo said Tuesday that she couldn't renew her lease because it was about to expire and “I have to let it go and move on.”

Venezuelan street dogs with matchstick fries and other Leonore specialties are also still available. Liendo has also been running a pizza shop in the Valley Commons strip mall on Apperson Drive for about a year. The current menu includes menu items from the previous Leonore restaurant.

Liendo said he was born in Venezuela and immigrated to the United States from Colombia. His brother also owns restaurants in the area, Grace Place Pizzeria and Crumble's.
