Another art gallery has opened in downtown Roanoke, but this time it's inside the office where I work.

The gallery is open to the public during business hours, and visitors can request a reservation by calling 798-3588. The venue is 310 First St. SW.
Outfitter closes one store
walkabout outfitter We are planning to close the store in Valley View Mall Suzanne Meyerchuk, CEO of the Lexington-based clothing, footwear, outdoor and travel goods retailer, said it closed at the end of March due to declining sales.

The chain's third store opened as an expansion in 2010, but by 2018 it was no longer expected to increase sales, Meyerchuk said. During the pandemic, sales declined across the chain. After that, the Valley View store didn't recover like other stores, and sales continued to decline, Meyerchuk said.

Meyerchuk said company officials, including owners Tina Miller and Kirk Miller, are taking steps to improve the store's financial performance, including negotiating lower rents, cutting costs, increasing marketing and evaluating staff training. He has been working on improving it for many years. The CEO said the company decided not to renew its lease, which expires this spring, after evidence showed the store would not be successful.
“We've done everything to stay there,” she said.
Products are on sale at Valley View Store.
Six stores remain, including one in downtown Roanoke and one in Blacksburg. Walkabout opened its newest location in Williamsburg in November. The company he founded in 2005.
Meyerchuk said employees were told they would have a job “no matter what,” and those interested in remaining with the company were offered work elsewhere.
