Park Place Boutique and Salon, located at 413 Main Street in downtown Columbus, has officially closed.
Owner Gail Stevens said she's grateful to customers who have supported Park Place over the past decade, which is set to reopen later this month in a new location at 3451 New Hope Road.
“We love downtown. We really love it,” Stevens said. “We found a building less than a mile from our house.”
Park Place New Hope will also open under new ownership. Steven's daughter, Tina Beth Crews, will take over operations. Park Place will feature a salon with three stylists, a boutique line, and additional space for local vendors. Once open, you can visit the new Park Place Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Follow Park Place online for the latest updates.
A new Montessori-based after-school program will be launching in Columbus by this spring. Little Legends Montessori Academy, located at 420 31st Ave. N., is gearing up to open in March. Program director and owner Shemeka Williams said she is excited to bring Montessori to the Columbus area. Williams will open her first Little Legends location in Tupelo in February 2023, and is gearing up to open a second location in Columbus in the coming weeks.
“I felt a need,” Williams said, “and I asked God for guidance, and it all fell into place.”
Montessori education is a self-paced education. It is a collaborative, hands-on learning environment where students make their own learning decisions.
“I love Montessori education,” Williams said, “I love catering to the needs of children. We are all uniquely created by God and we learn from each other.”
Little Legends is currently accepting applications for children ages 3 to 6. By the summer, Williams said the school plans to offer a summer camp for students as well as before and after care programs.
Also in Columbus, early construction has begun at 2212 Military Road, across from Lowe's. Gil Fani, who also owns Kings Court near downtown, said Military Express is expected to open by this summer. Military Express will combine a laundromat, convenience store and liquor store under one roof. He added that the convenience store will be “food-centric,” with a dining area and kitchen serving Southern-style fare such as pizza, fried chicken and fried fish.
Moving on to Starkville, True REST Float Spa, located at 618 Hwy. 12, is preparing for its grand opening. Owner Dana Robertson said they are in the final stages and are on track to open on Feb. 12.
True REST is a spa that offers sensory deprivation pods that customers can float in. Robertson says these therapeutic “floats” can help with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, insomnia and chronic pain.
“We're very excited. We've been looking forward to this for a long time,” she said. “…Once people get here and start floating, they're not going to want to stop.”
