SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) – When waters rose in Spencer, Iowa, the city received an overwhelming amount of support from the surrounding community.

As long as the city has been in need, one local business has stepped up to help feed people.

“This is kind of my mission, we're just doing whatever we can to help,” said Nathan Craft, owner of Crafty's Meat Market in Milford, Iowa.

When the disaster struck in Spencer, normal operations halted at one local business.

“What you just saw is a large amount of loins being shipped out. This is going to Operation BBQ Relief in Spencer. They're setting it up in the Hy-Vee parking lot for anyone who needs a meal,” Kraft said.

While the people of Spencer are recovering from the recent flooding, the team at Crafty's Meat Market is working hard to provide free meals to the hungry as they make it their mission to supply food to the national nonprofit Operation BBQ Relief.

In Spencer, the meat was grilled for the hungry crowds, and meals were sent to homes and delivered to emergency crews working around the clock.

“We go wherever there's a natural disaster. If there's a need to provide food to people, we go. We're usually on scene within 24 hours,” said Tara Wright, regional coordinator for Operation BBQ Relief in Iowa.

Operation BBQ Relief runs in Spencer until Sunday, June 30, but Crafty's will provide meals for as long as needed.

“Hopefully it won't take weeks, months, hopefully not a year,” Kraft said.

Once again, “Operation BBQ Relief” will be providing meals in the Hy-Vee parking lot in Spencer every day through Sunday, June 30. Krafty's Meat Market will be looking for volunteers to cook and serve donated food starting next week.
