The Jury Award, presented in partnership with AlixPartners, recognizes independent directors who have stabilized Royal Caribbean through its record recovery post-COVID-19.
John F. Block appointed as Royal Caribbean Group's Chief Independent Director corporate director's 8th annual Director of the Year award is presented in partnership with AlixPartners.
Mr. Block was recognized by a distinguished panel of public company board members for his role in providing independent governance stability during one of the most significant corporate recoveries in recent memory. He joined Royal Caribbean's Board of Directors in February 2014 and assumed the role of Lead Independent Director in mid-2025.
As Chairman of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, Mr. Block guided the Board structure and director renewal, and as a Board member, helped the Company weather the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently return to record profitability and investment grade credit ratings. During his tenure, Royal Caribbean successfully completed a CEO transition and advanced a series of strategic initiatives, including ongoing newbuilding fleet expansion, commercial destination development, and a tri-brand credit card program. For fiscal year 2025, the company reported adjusted net income of $4.3 billion, an increase of 34% year over year.
Brock brings a well-suited executive background to this role. As former Chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises, CEO of Coca-Cola European Partners (now Coca-Cola Europe Pacific Partners), and CEO of InBev, he has spent his career steering logistics-focused consumer businesses on a global scale, in the very business areas in which Royal Caribbean operates.
