The United States Agency for International Development (USAid) says a recently launched ecotourism scheme will ensure local communities benefit from natural resources and improve their livelihoods.
Recently, an ecotourism scheme was launched in Nyangambe Conservation Area, Chiredzi.
USAid Mission Director Jane Davis said the plan will promote sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
“This will provide a blueprint and guidelines for local communities, private sector partners, the Government of Zimbabwe and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to invest in conservation that will benefit everyone in the community,” she said.
“The business plan identifies the product lines, infrastructure and marketing strategies to attract tourists and, together, we can ensure this precious landscape is protected by local people for future generations.”
Chiredzi Provincial Tourism Director Roman Matura said there was a need to ensure that tourism improved the livelihoods of local communities.
