An Orange Avenue gas station that has been vacant for at least six years has been given new life.
“We are destroying entire stores,” small business owner Arpit Soni said of the former. orbit Located in northeast Roanoke. He is planning a new convenience store and fuel center, but declined to say which brands would be available.

The new store and fuel center is scheduled to open in the winter of 2024-2025 at 1021 Orange Ave. NE.

RaceWay ceased operations at least six years ago, according to city records. No older records were available. Soni's company acquired it in 2022. A lot of work was needed, including a new underground fuel tank that was recently installed.
Sony's opening date is sometime this winter.
New sheets proposed in Roanoke County
Mr. Sheets has submitted plans to build a gas station and store on Franklin Road in southwestern Roanoke County. This would require the demolition of a closed Carter Bank & Trust branch and a former optical store near Lowe's, according to a proposal dated Feb. 9.
