The Sarnia-Lambton Business Development Corporation (SLBDC) would like to award $10,000 to one new business and is conducting a friendly competition to do so.
“The Pitch is a business plan pitch competition in a very small sense, like “Shark Tank'' or “Dragons Den.'' It gives people the opportunity to pitch their business plans to a panel of judges. It’s about giving,” SLBDC CEO Sarah Rome told the Journal.
Applications are now closed, but there were strict requirements for those who wanted to apply. Rohm explains: “To qualify, your business must either be new, having started less than a year ago, or not open yet, but will be open by the end of the year. ” and will be up and running as a full-time business by December of this year.
Currently, 19 businesses are taking on the challenge, which includes participating in four required workshops, submitting a detailed business plan by May 17th, and creating a short video for the People's Choice award. It is included.
“Our judging panel receives all the business plans and selects the top seven business plans. The top seven business plans are then scored based on a matrix that we share with the contestants, and the top seven are the judges. The winner will be chosen from a pool of seven finalists, who will pitch live directly to the panel,” explains Rohm.
The People's Choice Award features a $1,000 prize for each pitch, courtesy of Bluewater Power. Residents of this award-winning area are encouraged to watch the video and vote for their favorite. The public will also be able to attend the live pitch final on Thursday 13 June to show their support.
“First prize is $10,000, second prize is $3,500, and third prize is $1,500…The winner will also receive a free one-year membership to the Chamber of Commerce and $250 in office supplies from Manley’s Basics. ” says Rohm. . He added: “We keep telling our contestants that there's a pot at the end of the rainbow, and yes, if they win, there's a prize, but what we're really trying to do is win all 19 contestants. What they will come out with on the other side of this process is a solid business plan that they can take to the community and realize their entrepreneurial dreams.”
SLBDC has been in existence since 1988 and is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs realize their business goals by providing access to capital, business counseling services, and resources to help entrepreneurs succeed. is. And while The Pitch has existed in various versions over the past few years, it will now be known as “The Pitch.” Rome has high hopes for the businesses participating in this year's competition and believes Lambton County will support their efforts.
“You only have to live in this community to understand why it is a great place to live and work. Sarnia-Lambton tends to support Sarnia-Lambton from a small business perspective …The great people who live in Sarnia-Lambton tend to look local and support local businesses whenever they can, which certainly makes it a welcoming environment for new businesses to thrive.”
