The long-established bar, located off South College Avenue, is one of many businesses looking to expand as part of Bryan's midtown district growth plans.
BRYAN, Texas — The City of Bryan continues to grow with its Midtown Regional Plan, and city staple Carneys is one of many businesses receiving major upgrades.
Barry Ivins, owner of Carney's Pub and Grill, said, “I kind of saw the big picture and all the plans they had from the beginning. From that point to today, it all came to fruition. It was a really great project to see.”
Back in 2020, South College Avenue was identified as an area in need of improvement in the Midtown Area Plan.
Lauren Hovde, Brian's Development Manager, described the project: “The City is investing in replacing aging infrastructure to support existing and future businesses coming to the area. More people want to live, work and enjoy this corridor. We hope that you will think, “We do that.” ”
The project includes five different neighborhoods, including Union Hill. The plan for the area is to increase pedestrian participation by upgrading restaurants and entertainment spots like Carney's to appeal to and fit more residents.
“We're up 40% from pre-COVID-19, so we've seen significant growth and our customer base continues to grow. Just having more patio space means we can host more events. , we also plan to add a 255-inch video wall and an adjacent bar, which will provide more space and even more fun,” Ivins said.
Guitar Studio, located next to Carney's, will become the second bar, with renovations expected to be completed by July.
