Starkville developer Mark Castleberry already has another project in the works.
Coming soon to Starkville is 110 Mill, a mixed-use development on Mill Street. Castleberry purchased and demolished three homes behind Mugshots to build 45 luxury apartments and about 10,000 square feet of retail and office space. Castleberry added that two of the homes had been vacant for at least 10 years.
Although it's still in the early stages, construction is expected to begin in early 2025.
“We really believe in this market,” said Castleberry, who recently completed the larger Triangle Crossing development along Highway 12. “… We feel that this great area will be even better if we can bring quality apartments and retail to it.”
Speaking of the Triangle Crossing development, the final two stores have officially opened, with the development now full to capacity, and Starbucks and Verizon welcoming customers.
Relocating across town, Castleberry purchased the former Cadence Bank headquarters building about a year ago, and after exterior renovations and ongoing interior renovations, the new Professional Park (12183 Hwy. 182) is ready to accept tenants. Professional Park is about 36,000 square feet, half of which is already occupied by law firms, finance companies and others.
Castleberry said that as more tenants move in, they will make the necessary renovations to accommodate new businesses. In addition to the remaining 18,000 square feet of rentable space, the property also has a 4,800-square-foot warehouse space for lease. Prospective tenants can contact Castle Properties for more information.
Southern Drugs, which relocated to Columbus, is closing.
Southern Drugs, which was founded in 1931, will close its doors on May 10. The pharmacy at 1202 Main St. announced the closure in a press release on Wednesday, citing “insufficient insurance reimbursements” as the primary reason.
“For nearly a century, Southern Drugs has been committed to providing excellent pharmacy services to the Columbus community,” the press release stated. “In maintaining its dedication to customer care and service quality, Southern Drugs will consolidate its services with its network of family pharmacies throughout Mississippi and Alabama.”
Southern Drugs has transferred all of its customers' prescriptions to Donut Factory Pharmacy, located at 1214 Hwy. 45 N. Customers can contact pharmacist Carl Shirley and his team at the new location with any questions.
“Southern Drugs is extremely grateful for the trust and support the Columbus community has shown over the decades,” the press release stated. “While this chapter is closing, Southern Drugs' tradition and commitment to health and wellness will continue to thrive through our other Family Pharmacy locations across Mississippi and Alabama.”
We want to thank our Downtown Pharmacy for serving our patients for so many years.
Also in the city, another Family Dollar announced it would close. Corporate headquarters did not respond to a request for comment from The Dispatch at press time. The Family Dollar at 60 Mike Parra Road is the second Family Dollar to close since announcing it earlier this year. Dollar Tree, which bought Family Dollar stores a decade ago, announced it would close more than 1,000 Family Dollar stores but did not release a list. The first stores to close were closed due to “poor performance,” according to a press release.
