Dr. Brian P. Brown will become interim dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business, effective today.
Brown is a professor in the Department of Marketing and has experience in academic leadership, research, and teaching. After serving as an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for five years and receiving awards for excellence in teaching, Brown joined VCU as an assistant professor in 2011, an associate professor in 2013, and an associate professor in 2019. Mr. Brown also has over 15 years of experience in marketing, management, and consulting, including serving as his manager for the Coca-Cola Classic brand at The Coca-Cola Company, and serving as vice president of marketing at Snapper Power Equipment. Brown's research interests include brand strategy, business-to-business marketing, and product management. He has published in some of the top academic journals in marketing, including the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Brand Management, and Journal of Business Research. He serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Business Research. The VCU School of Business honored Dr. Brown with his 2013 Most Inspirational Teacher Award and 2019 Award of Excellence. He was also selected as a Provost and Faculty Fellow in 2022.
Brown is active in the Richmond community. His board members include the VCU Institute of Contemporary Art, Preservation Virginia, and VPM.
Brown received his Ph.D. He has a degree from Georgia State University, his MBA degree from Duke University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia.
