Craft Beer Maker in Franklin County Chaos Mountain Brewing The owner closed the store, although the decision was primarily for personal reasons.
“I just turned 64 this year, but I've been doing this job for 10 years, sometimes six or seven days a week,” said Joseph Hallock, who owns the store with his wife, Wendy. “It's gotten to the point where it's exhausting me.” Hallock said the variety of competition in the beverage and entertainment space has made it harder to succeed than it used to be. He explained that when Chaos opened in 2014, there were 40 craft beer venues in Virginia and now there are 380 venues.

The couple plans to retire.
Chaos Mountain, a 30-minute drive from Roanoke, is a former bed factory that brews, bottles, and serves beer. Patrons munched on food truck meals indoors and outdoors in the natural setting of the foothills of Mount Cajas.

Hallock said production reached nearly 5,000 barrels in 2018 or 2019, at which point the company was distributing beer virtually throughout the state. Asked whether he had tried to sell the business, Mr Hallock said: To be honest, it's already saturated. ”
He plans to sell the equipment and rent the building. Although he has no plans to start another business, he said he plans to continue drinking beer and resume homebrewing, the hobby that led him to start Chaos Mountain in the past.
His favorite beer was Agents of Chaos. Wendy's had four mad chefs.
