Due South Barbecue in Roanoke will continue to serve smoked meat platters, hushpuppies and fried tomatoes under new ownership after previous owner Del Marie March left the restaurant.
Dharamjit and Jagroop Singh purchased the Melrose Avenue store on July 1. After the company closed its flagship Due South store in Christiansburg five months ago in March, there were questions about what would become of the store.
Jagroop Singh said the Singhs, who are originally from India and have business interests in the printer cartridge industry, were looking for new opportunities as there were signs that the ink cartridge business was moving online. He said he had been working as a manager at Melrose Due South for a few months when he started considering whether to sell.
He believes it was a good decision to buy the restaurant because it is popular and located on or near a major road. The Roanoke store's new owners hope to bring in customers nostalgic for the Christiansburg store.

The company paid $645,000 for the property and equipment, took over on July 1, and is stacking brisket, pork and chicken in smokers at a rate of 50 to 100 pounds a day.
“We are eating meat like there is no tomorrow,” Jagroop Singh said.
Dew South in Roanoke caters events and participates in various online ordering platforms, and the lunch combo is listed as priced at $8.99, according to a press release.
March, R-Floyd, started Dew South Barbecue in Christiansburg in 2007 and opened the Roanoke location in 2021. She closed the Christiansburg store, citing her food and labor costs. She lost her bid for the Republican nomination for a second term in June.
