About the event:
On the occasion of B20 Summit India, India United Nations (Office of the Permanent Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme), in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry and the European Union, is hosting a side event titled 'Advancing the 2030 Agenda' . Through Responsible Business Activities” held in New Delhi on August 24, 2023.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasizes the role of the business sector as a key partner of the United Nations and governments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Notable Goal 17 calls for “all businesses to use creativity and innovation to solve sustainable development challenges.”
Responsible business practices and strategies touch on the key areas covered by the SDGs across the environmental, social and governance spectrum. They play a vital role in shaping a sustainable future. Responsible business practices are more than just compliance. These demonstrate the company's unwavering commitment to conducting business ethically and responsibly across the entire value chain. This requires careful attention to environmental and social impacts and proactive measures to prevent, reduce and address the negative impacts that business operations may have on people and the planet.
The “Advancing the 2030 Agenda through Responsible Business Behavior'' event aims to foster positive change and align the business sector with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The importance of business in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering a dynamic and well-functioning business sector that protects labor rights, environmental standards and health in accordance with international agreements and guidelines such as the United Nations Guiding Principles.
