Newswatch 16's Stacy Lange spoke with the owner who is determined to rebuild after Sunday's devastating fire.
WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — A Wayne County business that has been around for more than 30 years went up in flames over the weekend.
Bob Yedinak said he had only been home from work two hours when he received an emergency phone call. When he pulled up, what he saw was that it flipped him over on his stomach.
“I felt a little sick,” Yedinak said. “Thirty-two years will pass in an hour.”
Yedinak said the Salem Township garage that housed his business, Bob's Excavating, had been eroded when he arrived around 8 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters had to battle flames from above.
The building, five trucks and thousands of dollars worth of tools were all gone.
State police fire marshals were called in to determine the cause of the fire, but no answers have yet been provided.
Yedinak says he doesn't know anything either.
“We were here all day picking cardboard and bailing. We finished at 6 o'clock. We put in the last bail. We put the machine in the garage, closed the door, and everything was fine. There was no smoke. No, there's nothing in the garage.”
What was in the garage was Yedinak's livelihood. Fortunately, his customer's car was not damaged.
Yedinak has been building his garage and business by hand for the past 30 years. Since he plans to return to his job, he hopes insurance will cover the loss.
“Please change it back. I hope the insurance kicks in soon. Then we'll start over. I don't know what else to do.”
