The City of Philadelphia recognizes our city's Black-owned businesses for continuing to provide vital goods and services to our residents, and we are committed to advancing the economic opportunities that support the lives of multicultural business owners and their families.
Black businesses are present in many sectors, including barbershops, coffee shops, bookstores, retail, hair salons, technology, restaurants, real estate, arts and entertainment, finance, cosmetics, and more. Our goal, along with our economic development partners, is to continue to help Black businesses start, operate, grow, and thrive. Department of Commerce Multilingual Business Services Manager Philadelphia provides individualized support, education and customer service to entrepreneurs of all backgrounds. Staff meets with entrepreneurs to meet their needs and connect them to city services and resources available throughout the city.
The African American Chamber of Commerce has launched a new campaign. Investing in Black PhiladelphiaProtect, promote and prioritize Black-owned businesses in Philadelphia. Use #InvestinBlackPhilly and #PhillyBlackBusiness in your posts to encourage visitors and locals to share photos of themselves shopping at Black-owned stores. Wednesday, August 16: The African American Chamber of Commerce celebrates National Black Business Month An expo featuring workshops, vendors and empowerment speakersThe expo was designed to further the Chamber’s goals of engaging, educating and strengthening its members, and to introduce them to real-world resources that can help them grow and sustain their businesses.
Wednesday, August 23: The Department of Commerce is launched Tech Talk Series It will be an opportunity to convene Philadelphia's tech community to share resources, network, discuss innovative ideas, and engage. Attendees, including BIPOC tech entrepreneurs, will hear from industry leaders about the keys to moving up within the tech ecosystem. This event is perfect for founders, technologists, and startups.
