Greener, an Australian cleantech startup that creates custom action plans to help customers become more environmentally sustainable, today launches Greener for Business. Greener for Business is aimed at Australian small and medium-sized businesses and aims to help them move towards net zero faster. It has set an ambitious goal of helping all small and medium-sized businesses in Australia to halve their emissions by 2030, and the number of small and medium-sized businesses that have adopted it has reached approximately one million. Gleaner also announced a strategic partnership with Australian energy retailer Origin.
For small businesses looking to build a more environmentally sustainable business, time and resources are often an issue. Mr Gleaner cited statistics showing small businesses account for more than 98 per cent of Australian businesses and contribute around $506 billion to the economy. However, his 43% of small businesses fall into the red and almost half go bankrupt within their first four years.
Keeping in mind the pressures small businesses deal with, Greener for Business is available for free. By working with companies that offer exclusive offers to Greener's members, we reduce emissions and save money while increasing revenue through a supplier-funded model. Greener's action plan helps small and medium-sized businesses from all sectors to change their operations and save money across emissions sectors such as energy, waste, electrification, packaging and logistics. In addition to Greener action plans, Greener for Business also helps users find government rebates.
“When it comes to climate change, things are notoriously complicated, and the more complicated things are, the less likely people are to take action,” Greener co-founder Tom Ferrier told TechCrunch. I know that,” he said. That's why Greener for Business creates step-by-step plans that are easy to implement and can positively impact your small business's bottom line.
To develop the action plan, The Gleaner is collaborating with climate and behavior experts, including Harvard University's Behavioral Insights Group. Greener for Business' work also aligns with the United Nations' Race to Zero. Mr Ferrier added that Mr Gleaner was working with carbon experts such as Pangolin Associates, Australia's leading carbon measurement and consulting firm. Greener uses Pangolin's carbon footprint benchmark dataset to estimate a company's emissions reductions based on company size, industry, and behavior.
“There is a common misconception that greener options are more expensive options and require expensive sustainability consultants, so being greener is not necessarily a top priority for small businesses,” Ferrier says. he said. But that's a myth, and Mr Gleaner is debunking it by forming a coalition of Australia's biggest brands, including Origin and Sendol, to offer Gleaner users offers to help reduce their emissions. I'm trying to do this.
The partnership between Greener and Origin allows Greener for Business users to purchase products such as solar energy and GreenPower, a government-certified renewable energy program that matches their energy usage by sending an equal amount of renewable energy back into the grid. You can receive offers. Ferrier says his Stitch Bar in Sydney, a Greener for Business user, has been able to save more than $2,000 a year by switching to GreenPower, and has also cut the emissions from the road to the equivalent of 34 cars. says the company.
A Greener for Business action plan may include advice such as switching to LED lighting, which could save the average small business more than $2,300. For businesses that own their own real estate, installing rooftop solar is an option that could save you $7,000 a year within five years.
Ferrier said that while some actions may seem more obvious than others, “What some businesses may not realize is that they can make real savings in areas they don't even think about, like garbage collection.'' I know,” he added. We consider our bin suppliers to understand that separating your waste stream and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills can have significant benefits not only for your bottom line, but also for the planet. indicates. For example, with simple changes to waste management, the average 40-seat restaurant can actually save more than $1,000 a year. ”
Mr Gleaner's partners include several local councils including Ku-ring-gai, North Sydney, Willoughby, Yarra and Moonee Valley. “When it comes to councils and commercial property bodies, many have set net-zero targets but are inheriting the emissions of businesses where they are located,” Mr Ferrier said. “This means that if we are to meet our targets, we will need to rely on these companies to reduce emissions, and we need easy and compelling ways to do so.” Working with Willoughby City Council , Gleaner identified an approach that could achieve 118% of the net zero target four years ahead of schedule.
Other partners include the Australian Retailers Association (ARA). Mr. Yum and Shopline. Ferrier says that by helping members and customers save money and reduce emissions, they can grow businesses that are more financially sustainable and environmentally friendly.
