If you own an NBA team, you have deep pockets. That's how you get an NBA team. Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is no exception.
What's more, you didn't get that position because you weren't ambitious. If you own an NBA team, you'll want even more. Once again, Fertilla fits that profile.
Apparently he has big plans for the city of Houston.
You've probably heard that Fertitta wants to bring an NHL team to Houston. For those who haven't heard yet:
“We want to try to get an NHL team in Houston – I'm working on that.”
– Tilman Fertitta
interesting. This would be a bold move. Houston has a rich sports history. The Rockets won the NBA title and the Astros became a powerhouse. The Texans have never won a Super Bowl, but CJ Stroud has a chance to change that soon.
So it makes sense to throw an NHL team into the mix. It will be an uphill battle to surpass the popularity of other teams in the city. Still, some die-hard hockey fans in Houston would like to see this happen.
This isn't the only plan Fertitta has in the works.
Here's some interesting information from Fertitta's recent interview. That was news to us. Fertitta wants to bring the WNBA back to Houston, he says.
That's also natural. Women's basketball is rapidly gaining popularity. Notably, for the first time, the women's NCAA finals drew more TV viewers than the men's game.
Meanwhile, the Houston Comets won the first four WNBA championships. They were a dynasty throughout his late 1990s. The Comets were the strongest after Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoop, and Tina Thompson.
The Astros were financially ruined and unable to find a new owner. If Fertitta brings them back to Houston, the city will be energized. This should be exciting for many Houston Rockets fans.
As long as Fertitta has enough leftovers to be part of the Rockets' core.
