Obtaining a business credit card provides a great asset to small business owners. By opening the right business credit card, you can earn rewards, earn big sign-up bonuses, and even get interest-free financing for large purchases.

When you apply for a business credit card, Seem It can be overwhelming, especially as a new business owner. But with a little preparation, you can get your card in three steps. Here's how:

1. Evaluate your qualifications

Approval for small business cards is primarily based on your personal credit score, so getting a business credit card as a start-up or new business is less difficult than if your company is more established. Most cards require a good or excellent credit score, usually a personal FICO score of 690 or higher, but there are also secure business cards for entrepreneurs with bad credit.
Do you have poor personal credit but strong income or venture capital? Consider business cards like Brex or Ramp, which approve based on your business's finances, not your personal credit score.

2. Compare different types of business credit cards

If you need to finance a large purchase or consolidate existing debt: Consider a business card with an initial 0% APR on new purchases and balance transfers. Cards that offer ongoing rewards along with an introductory APR period are better long-term bets than cards with only 0% rewards.
If you want a simple and versatile card: Cashback business credit cards are among the most versatile, as you can typically redeem your rewards as a statement credit or deposit them into a connected bank account.
Fixed-rate cards are great if you don't spend a lot on a particular category because you earn the same percentage back on all your purchases. for example,

Capital One Spark Cash Plus

This card offers 2% cash back on all purchases, plus the following sign-up bonuses:

Earn a one-time cash bonus of $1,200 after you spend $30,000 in the first three months.

The annual membership fee is

$150

. (See rates and fees.) Please note that this is a business charge card, so you will need to pay off your balance in full each month.

If you want to maximize your rewards in the areas where you spend the most: Cashback business cards with bonus categories offer great value when used in a way that aligns with your spending habits.

For example, earn 5% cash back on the first $25,000 in purchases at office supply stores, Internet, cable, and phone services each anniversary year. 2% cash back on the first $25,000 in purchases at gas stations and restaurants each anniversary year. 1% elsewhere.

If you spend a lot of time on the road (or on a plane): Earning extra points on travel-related expenses, business travel cards can provide added value through traveler-friendly perks like lounge access and airline credits. Like cash back cards, travel cards offer either a fixed amount of rewards or tiered rewards that earn you higher rates in certain categories.

American Express Business Platinum Card®

For example, they offer many benefits in exchange for a high annual fee.

$695

. First, there's a generous welcome bonus:

Earn 120,000 Membership Rewards® points when you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases with your Business Platinum Card within your first three months of cardmembership. Terms and conditions apply.

Earn 5 Membership Rewards points on flights and prepaid hotels booked through the American Express Travel website, and 1 point for every dollar spent on eligible purchases. He will also earn 1.5 points on qualifying purchases at U.S. construction materials and hardware suppliers, electronics retailers, software and cloud systems providers, and shipping providers. Also, his purchases of $5,000 or more in other regions will earn him 1.5 points on purchases up to $2 million. By calendar year.

You'll also get up to $200 in annual airfare credits, a $189 credit toward the cost of your Clear membership, airport lounge access, and more. Terms and conditions apply (View rates and fees).

3. Apply for a business credit card

Applying for a small business card is relatively easy. Enter much of the same information you would for a personal credit card, plus additional details about your business (industry, revenue, etc.).

  • Company name, address, and phone number.

  • Annual income, number of employees, and years of establishment.

  • Business type, industry, and legal structure.

  • Estimated monthly expenses.

  • Your Employer Identification Number (EIN), if you have one.

You will also need to provide your personal information. Name, date of birth, Social Security number, home address, email address, phone number, annual income, and monthly rent or mortgage payment amount.

FAQ

Any business owner can apply for a business credit card. This includes independent contractors, freelancers, gig workers, and independent contractors.

Having a small business credit card makes it easier to separate work and personal spending, identify tax deductions, and build a business credit history.

While there are bad credit business cards out there, getting approved for a business credit card typically requires a personal FICO score of 690 or higher. However, some business cards have even higher standards. The Capital One Spark Cash Plus requires good credit (FICO score 720 or higher), similar to the Bank of America® Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard® Credit Card.
Secured business credit cards, on the other hand, typically have no minimum credit score requirements. You can also qualify for a business credit card without a personal credit check, but there are other requirements, such as minimum earnings and annual spending.
