KT is reestablishing its business vision around artificial intelligence (AI) while striving to innovate in AI at the enterprise level. To achieve this goal, we are accelerating intensive internal innovation, hiring and open partnerships.
According to KT, CEO Kim Young-seop said at Mobile World Congress 2024 held in Barcelona, Spain on February 27th, “KT will be reborn as an artificial intelligence communication technology (AICT) service company that combines information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence.'' ” he emphasized. Intelligence (AI) and communication ability. “We will become a digital innovation partner through our 'end-to-end' services that provide our customers with digital innovation strategies, optimal solutions, and efficient operational management.''
KT, which has declared its transformation into an “AICT service company'' beyond being a major Korean mobile carrier, is undergoing major changes in terms of business strategy and organizational management.
First, we are working to diversify our AI business portfolio at the business strategy level. KT introduces three innovation engines to rapidly realize AI transformation through customized AI.
The first force is “AI Ops”. We provide an environment where customers can prepare, learn, distribute, and operate data for AI utilization. The second is improved productivity through the use of AI assistants.
Strengthen KT's existing AICC services and expand Generative AI counseling services in areas where expertise is required. The last one is “AI agent”. Super-sized AI will be extended not only to service types connected to real-time networks, but also to “on-device AI” installed in devices such as smartphones and televisions.
KT also plans to introduce an AI MSP (Modeling & Managed Service Provider) service that will support all areas necessary to carry out AI business, from AI introduction to construction, operation, and management.

KT is also strengthening cooperation with major technology companies and startups around the world. Last year, KT invested in Kwanda, a large-scale language model (LLM) development startup specializing in mathematics, and last month entered into a technical partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the field of generative AI. More recently, it collaborated with drone solutions company KAITUS to introduce an anti-drone solution to neutralize illegal drones. “We will expand our open partnerships, support small and medium-sized Korean partners, and quickly bring world-class technology know-how and capabilities into our company,” CEO Kim said.
KT is rapidly changing its corporate DNA to focus on AI by strengthening internal training and bringing AI in-house.
KT's most important focus in improving its structure is securing human resources. This year's goal is to hire more than 1,000 AI and ICT talents from all occupations, from employees to executives. Furthermore, in order to strengthen the AI literacy (ability to understand and utilize AI) of executives and employees, we will operate the basic IT ability improvement program “AX Degree.” We are also actively working on human resources development in collaboration with universities. Starting in 2022, KT is preparing an AI master's program in partnership with domestic universities such as KAIST and Pohang Institute of Technology, and is promoting AI research and industry-academia collaboration projects.
CEO Kim said, “The most important thing is to secure AI talent, provide an environment where they can expand, and grow into the best experts,'' adding, “KT will leap forward into a world-class AICT company with the best AI talent.'' Deaf,” he said. ”
We are also promoting ways to internalize an “AI native” environment. We are developing and applying the business innovation platform “Gen.AIDU” based on “Multi LLM” that utilizes KT's super-giant AI “Believe:”, OpenAI's GPT, and Meta's Lamar. ZenIdu is a platform for developing application processor interfaces (APIs) that can be used directly in Generative AI. It is characterized by improved work convenience and enhanced security.
Additionally, we released a generative AI knowledge response service called “Jenny,” which allows users to easily search the company's vast amount of products, services, and business knowledge using AI, and utilized it for business purposes.
KT is also applying AI to its core business to improve operations.
The plan is to use “beliefs'' to generate content marketing phrases for Genie TV, and to use AI to predict the box office ratings of content and use it to create original content for KT. The company will also develop a platform that automatically analyzes images and videos to improve image quality and generate posters, and will apply them to the media business.
KT is also working to establish an “AI governance” system to ensure that AI is ultimately put into practical use for the right purposes. The company plans to further specify the AI ethical principles that apply to the company and elaborate guidelines that can be implemented in practice.
In particular, we plan to correct AI bias and build a system that can continuously check and evaluate personal information management and AI risk factors.
