Auburn area businesses are organizing a fundraiser for the families of two law enforcement officers killed in Salina last week.
Mariah Quigley is the owner of Fat Cut Taco Truck. In an interview with Finger Lakes News Radio, she said she comes from a family of law enforcement officers, including her parents, her brothers, uncles and cousins. One of her cousins was friends with Lt. Michael Husock and accompanied his wife to her funeral.
Quigley said she felt she had to help in any way she could.
“We wanted to give back in some way, so we had the advantage of owning a food truck and putting something on that would give back, so we jumped on it right away,” Quigley said. “We can't even imagine what the family is going through at this moment and we want to help in any way we can.”
The fundraiser will be held at Emerson Park on May 11 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature food, music and a bottle-and-can drive from the Fat Cut Taco Truck and Ship Company. Quigley added that other local businesses are also helping with raffles to participate in the event.
“Local businesses in Auburn are actually donating some things, including gift certificates,” Quigley continued. “Lowe's is doing griddles. We have a lot to offer.”
All proceeds will be donated to the families of late Sheriff's Office Lt. Michael Husock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen.
