FORT FRANCIS — The Rainy River Future Development Corporation (RRFDC) is offering a free seminar on writing a business plan to help local businesses.
It is aimed at all existing and future entrepreneurs who want to develop and expand their businesses.
The seminar will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, at the RRFDC offices at 601 Mowat Ave. in Fort Frances and will be hosted by Charles Speirs, RRFDC business advisor.
“This is for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start a new business or people who want to expand their existing business,” Spears said.
“A business plan is an essential part of any business.”
A business plan has many functions, says Speirs: It can be used when applying for financing and to outline detailed ideas for starting your business, such as choosing a location and selecting accounting software.
“There are many different sides to the business,” Spears said.
“A lot of people don't know what to do, especially if it's their first time.”
It is also a required document for business owners looking to borrow funds.
“It shows you have passion and that you've really thought things through,” Speers said.
“Submitting a business plan will increase your credibility with financial institutions.”
The seminar will provide all attendees with a free start-up kit and organizational templates that will help them avoid common mistakes and remember important details like permits and licenses.
Speers said the business plan he created would be a living document that could change over time as the business developed.
The seminars are also a way to connect businesses with local resources through the RRFDC and outside organizations.
Participants will be in different locations, Spears noted.
Some people may just have an idea and are just looking for information.
Others can jump in and take advantage of RRFDC’s resources and expertise to take their ideas to the next step.
“We're just getting started,” Spears said.
