Last Friday, 10 people were arrested and 114 searches were carried out by police as part of Safe Business Conduct Day on 29 March. Working with a number of partners from the business community, officers spent the day addressing the key issue of business crime in the local community.
Eighteen vehicle checkpoints were carried out in locations including Newry and Belfast.
Chief Superintendent Sam Donaldson said: “Police officers across Northern Ireland carried out a planned operation including high visibility patrols, proactive action against criminals and worked with local businesses and the public.” said.
“Working with our police partners An Garda Síochána Police and Belfast Port Police, we carried out 18 vehicle checkpoints, including in Newry and Belfast. We also carried out a number of vehicle checkpoints, including theft. We arrested 10 people on suspicion of offences, carried out 14 searches and issued three Community Resolution Notices (CRNs).”
Last Thursday, detectives from the police's Organized Crime Unit also seized more than 20,000 counterfeit Apple products in Portadown and Belfast, including AirPods, Apple chargers and iPhones.
Chief Superintendent Sam Donaldson urged retailers to report violations to police and to contact local community and crime prevention officers. “We know that underreporting is a problem across all areas of business crime. If you have been victimized or witnessed something suspicious, please let us know. Your report will be a resource. help target criminals, arrest criminals and ultimately reduce crime and anti-social behavior.
“We continue to work with our partners in the business community to ensure our towns and cities remain safe, attractive and prosperous places where business crime is not tolerated.”
