
Williams-Sonoma's business is all about B2B e-commerce
Home decor chain retailer Williams-Sonoma Inc. was one of the earliest chain retailers to fully embrace B2C e-commerce.
Today, Williams-Sonoma is fully focused on another e-commerce market: business-to-business.

CEO Laura Alber told analysts on a recent earnings call that B2B has already become a significant omnichannel sales channel.
“We set an ambitious goal this year to reach $1 billion in B2B business demand, and with 27% year-over-year growth and 166% two-year growth, we are very close to achieving it. We’re close,” Albers told analysts. “And we continue to win B2B accounts thanks to our design capabilities and the wide range of products offered in our multi-brand portfolio.”
Last year, Williams-Sonoma generated total revenue of $8.7 billion. The company says that about two-thirds of its sales, or $5.742 billion, are generated through e-commerce.
Revenue for the 26 weeks ending July 30 was $3.618 billion, down from $4.028 billion a year earlier. But one bright spot so far this year has been sales from B2B, primarily e-commerce.
“We have won several proposals across industry segments, including collaboration with Sony in the entertainment sector, the San Antonio Spurs training facility; We own the facility,” Albers told analysts on the retailer's second-quarter earnings call. “Our trading business has been significantly impacted by the slowdown in the housing market. However, our trends have improved recently and we remain confident in this part of our B2B business over the long term.”
The B2B market served by Williams-Sonoma, which includes hospitality and office supplies, is an $80 billion annual business, with no one company owning a significant market share, the retailer said. Says.
“Gaining 3% market share would generate an additional $16 billion or more in revenue (or triple our current business),” Williams-Sonoma said in a recent investor presentation. states.
“There are really exciting things happening in B2B,” Albers told analysts.
