In Türkiye, people in need of international protection can use Google'sMaharat Min Program. The initiative is an online training hosted by Habitat, one of his NGO partners at UNHCR. It aims to teach young people, including students, graduates, job seekers, entrepreneurs, etc., key digital he marketing skills and tools.
Mona, a 22-year-old Syrian, has been living in Izmir for some time with her husband and two sons. Originally from Aleppo, she came to Turkey in 2015. She is an avid learner and strives to improve her knowledge in any way possible. “I am very keen to learn new things,” says Mona. “I am in grade 12 of high school and I attend private English classes.”

A few months ago, one of Mona's sisters' teachers mentioned the upcoming launch of an online course in digital marketing training supported by Google. “It sounded so appealing to me that I immediately signed up for this learning opportunity,” Mona explains. She then encouraged her two sisters to join her, and they were both fortunately accepted into the program.
Mona was passionate about digital marketing even before starting her training program. In fact, she often creates ads on her Instagram to support her family's textile business. For Mona, the COVID-19 situation presented a unique opportunity to work on digital marketing. She said lockdown restrictions led people to socially distanced shopping and encouraged entrepreneurs to develop their own ideas for online sales and marketing.
Mona was particularly impressed with the breadth of content provided by Google Training. Both theoretical and practical modules were dynamically conceived throughout the two-day session. From creating online platforms to finding innovative advertising solutions, participants had the opportunity to interactively discuss a variety of topics. This included Mona's favorite topic, digital marketing. “I was also given individual homework to test and demonstrate my knowledge. In this situation, I was able to create a website on a digital platform, namely Google Sites, entirely by myself.”
“With this new outlook, we'll be more prepared for the future.”
Before her training, Mona was advertising on social media for her family's business, but she didn't follow a well-thought-out strategy. “In the session, we learned how to develop a marketing strategy, from writing engaging captions to taking professional photos that create smarter advertising possibilities. With this new way of thinking, we are better prepared for the future. will be arranged.”
After completing the training, Mona gained new awareness. In fact, she just recently applied for a job at an international sales company in Izmir, and she is looking forward to the outcome of the interview. During her application process, she was told that this training that Google provided on her resume made her stand out from other candidates. She said: “Google is an international pioneer. When people hear about training supported by Google, they want to know more. This is really motivating.”
In the future, Mona plans to create her own digital marketing platform and develop a business using what she has learned so far. She also encourages other people in need of international protection to participate in similar training, so they can gain better life prospects during their stay in Turkey and contribute to their home country when they return home.
“This is not just about making money,” Mona reflects. “This is rather about learning new skills and increasing one's qualifications. I believe these are the two big pillars for him to succeed in his business initiatives that will lead to an exciting new future. .”

In 2018, the international community adopted the Global Compact on Refugees to find sustainable solutions for refugees around the world. One of the main goals of the Global Compact is to leave no one behind. Thanks to Google, Mahalatomin This initiative will give Mona and others in need of international protection improved access to decent employment opportunities while building closer connections with their host communities.
